Control your dogs
In the past several weeks there has been an unprecedented increase in the number of dogs roaming our island, attacking other dogs and causing traffic chaos. This has to stop before tragedy strikes.
Before I’m branded as an animal hater, I would like to point out I do not blame the dogs. Blame rests solely on owners who do not take care of their animals. If you have a pet, it is your duty to ensure it is healthy and happy and does not create a nuisance or danger to others.
Little Champas was the last victim of this neglect. Happily playing in his own garden, he was violently attacked by a vicious, unregistered dog. Champas’s owners Arch and Michele also sustained injuries when he tried to prevent Champas from further harm. I understand this case is now in the hands of the Redland City Council who will be pursuing the owner. I just hope the animal concerned does not have to pay for his owner’s carelessness with his life.
Dogs who run free on the streets are a risk to themselves and others. Cars brake suddenly to avoid them and consequently incur injury to occupants or damage to the car. Children are terrorised and sometimes even bitten.
C’mon people! Think about it. If you own a dog, keep it in your fenced yard and take it for regular walks on a lead. It’s not rocket science!
Your dog and others will thank you for it.
