Artists at Work, 19th - 21st April
Easter Weekend at the Progress Hall, Macleay Island, Southern Moreton Bay. Open daily from 10am-3pm
For a very different experience why not visit Macleay Island and watch painters, sculptors, mosaicists, potters, musicians, 3D artists, writers, print makers, quilters, spinners, silversmiths calligraphers and jewellers at work and get ‘hands on’ if you want? Embark on a wonderful journey of discovery, commencing with a 15 minute boat ride to the island and a five minute walk up the hill from the ferry. Free transport can be arranged if walking is a problem.
Visitors from Brisbane (that’s on the Big Island) will be astonished and delighted by the wealth of talent, the friendliness and the relaxed atmosphere that meets them as they enter our comfortable little 1960’s country hall and later explore the island. It will show you an Australia you thought no longer existed – the way we were! This isn’t gallery “don’t touch” stuff – this is fun, adults and children love it. Learn calligraphy, get clay or wood chips on you, enjoy. Standards range from good to international.
The Macleay Island Art Gallery will be holding its Annual Pottery Exhibition Earth Wind Fire and Water and free transport will be available to visit this, also to visit island cafes, clubs, pub and scenic locations. The words ‘free of charge’ are seldom met with in today’s society but we get great joy from our island and our work and want to share this with others.
Your Translink card or cash will cover the ferry ride. Once you’re here, you don’t need a car, you are our guests.
Ferry details: Weinam Creek Terminal, Banana Street, Redland Bay. See website
