Macleay Island Arts Centre

Arts_8

The Macleay Island Arts Complex Inc is a not for profit community arts organization whose objectives are to provide a creative, productive atmosphere and facilities for all artists and aspiring artists in the community.

This organization began in 1980 with a group of three painters who met in each other’s homes. The land on which the present complex stands was donated by the then Redland Shire Council. Members’ fundraising, grants and donations, and much voluntary work has provided the buildings and facilities. The group became incorporated in 1987.

The membership facilities include a painting workshop space; a pottery workshop space with two kilns and four wheels; an etching press and print storage; office; kitchen; peaceful gardens and bay views.

The painting group meets weekly on Tuesdays with a tutor in attendance once a fortnight.

The pottery group meets on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Members may use the facilities at any time. Tutored workshops are held by arrangement.

The Gallery is attached to the main building of the complex and provides a professional venue for exhibitions. It is available for hire to non-members. The Gallery is open to the public every Sunday from 10am – 3pm showing members’ work, except when there is an exhibition and then the gallery is open every day. The Macleay Island Arts Complex Annual Exhibition for members and non-members is held September-October.
